Overview

Carotenoids are a type of organic pigments, existing in chloroplast, photosynthetic algea, and certain types of fungi and bacteria. As carotenoids can not be produced endogenously by animals, therefore, carotenoids must be incorporated through uptaking carotenoids-containing diet.
