1,5-Diaminopentane, also known as cadaverine, is a naturally occurring polyamine compound produced in the body through the decarboxylation of lysine. It consists of a linear five-carbon alkane chain with an amino group (-NH₂) attached to each end. In tumor cells, polyamine metabolism is often active, and changes in the levels and metabolic processes of 1,5-diaminopentane may be associated with the occurrence, development, and malignant transformation of cancer. High levels of 1,5-diaminopentane and other polyamines are frequently observed in rapidly proliferating cancer cells. Therefore, measuring the levels of 1,5-diaminopentane and its metabolites can serve as biomarkers for tumor activity and therapeutic efficacy. Additionally, since 1,5-diaminopentane can be produced by bacteria in the body or during decomposition, elevated levels may indicate infection or inflammation. Monitoring its metabolites can help assess the severity of bacterial infection and the intensity of inflammatory response.
