    2-Methoxyestrone Analysis Service

2-Methoxyestrone (chemical formula C19H24O3) is a steroid estrogen derivative and a metabolite of estrone. Its structure consists of a typical steroid skeleton with four carbon rings (A, B, C, D rings), similar to other estrogen molecules. The main feature of 2-methoxyestrone is a methoxy group (-OCH₃) at the 2nd carbon position, which significantly differs from estrone, where a hydroxyl group (-OH) is typically found at this position. The biological activity of 2-methoxyestrone is weaker compared to its parent compound, estrone. It is considered a less biologically active estrogen metabolite and does not activate estrogen receptors as strongly as estrone or estradiol. However, studies have shown that 2-methoxyestrone may still play an important regulatory role under certain physiological conditions. It may possess anti-estrogenic properties, potentially inhibiting the growth of estrogen-dependent tumors, such as breast cancer, by lowering the levels of more potent estrogens like estradiol. Additionally, 2-methoxyestrone may help maintain estrogen balance in the body, reduce the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during estrogen metabolism, and modulate inflammatory responses. The metabolites of 2-methoxyestrone generally exhibit lower estrogenic activity, making them part of the feedback mechanism that regulates estrogen levels in the body. These metabolites may decrease the overall estrogenic effect and provide protective effects in certain estrogen-related diseases, such as endometriosis or breast cancer. Research also suggests that these metabolites may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant functions, helping reduce free radical formation and oxidative stress, especially in pathological conditions related to excessive estrogen activity.

Measuring the levels of 2-methoxyestrone and its metabolites in plant and biological samples holds significant biomedical and environmental research importance. In biological samples, the levels of 2-methoxyestrone can reflect an individual's estrogen metabolism status, particularly in research related to estrogen-dependent tumors, such as breast cancer and endometrial cancer, where it has diagnostic and prognostic value. Furthermore, analyzing changes in 2-methoxyestrone and its metabolites in the body can provide insights into endocrine function changes across different genders and age groups, particularly regarding the fluctuating estrogen levels during perimenopause and postmenopause and their impact on health. The application of highly sensitive techniques such as mass spectrometry enables precise quantification of 2-methoxyestrone and its metabolites. This is crucial for exploring the mechanisms underlying estrogen metabolism disorders, developing new therapeutic strategies, and monitoring the effects of hormone pollutants in the environment.
