    Calcitriol Analysis Service

Calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) is the active form of vitamin D, primarily converted by the enzyme 1α-hydroxylase (CYP27B1) in the kidneys. Its chemical structure is 1α,25-dihydroxycholesterol, with the molecular formula C₂₇H₄₄O₃. The synthesis process involves two main stages: first, vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3), and then it is transformed into calcitriol in the kidneys by 1α-hydroxylase. Monitoring calcitriol levels helps assess the vitamin D status, avoiding vitamin D deficiency or excess. Vitamin D supplementation therapy often requires adjustment based on calcitriol levels to ensure therapeutic efficacy and safety. For patients receiving calcitriol treatment, monitoring calcitriol and its metabolites can help evaluate treatment effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.
