N4,2'-O-dimethylcytidine (m4Cm) is a modified nucleoside present in tRNA, and is derived from cytidine, a nucleoside and a constituent of RNA. Structurally, m4Cm is a pyrimidine nucleoside, composed of a pyrimidine base (cytosine) and a ribose sugar, with two methyl groups attached at positions 4 and 2'. In cell metabolism, m4Cm is involved in the post-transcriptional modification of tRNA, which is crucial for proper protein synthesis and cellular function. Many recent studies have highlighted the potential of modified nucleosides, such as m4Cm, as biomarkers for various diseases, including cancer and infectious diseases.

The analysis of m4Cm and other modified nucleosides can provide valuable insights into cellular metabolism and RNA function. Additionally, the detection and quantification of m4Cm in biological samples could be used to diagnose and monitor disease progression or response to treatment. As such, the analysis of m4Cm is of high scientific and clinical relevance.
