    3,4-Dihydroxybenzoic acid Analysis Service

      3,4-Dihydroxybenzoic acid (3,4-DHBA), also known as protocatechuic acid, is an important aromatic hydroxy acid classified as a phenolic acid, with the chemical formula C₇H₆O₄. It consists of a benzene ring, two hydroxyl groups (positioned at the 3rd and 4th positions of the benzene ring), and a carboxylic acid group. Due to this unique structure, 3,4-DHBA exhibits significant antioxidant properties. As a white or light yellow crystalline solid, 3,4-DHBA is soluble in water, ethanol, ether, and other organic solvents.

       

      3,4-DHBA is a secondary metabolite widely present in plants, especially abundant in fruits, vegetables, and grains. In plants, it primarily functions as an antioxidant, helping plants resist environmental stress and playing a crucial role in their defense mechanisms.
