    3-methylcytidine Analysis Service

3-Methylcytidine (m3C), with the chemical formula C₁₀H₁₅N₃O₅, is a rare nucleoside found in transfer RNA (tRNA) and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). It is a derivative of cytidine, formed by the combination of ribose and 3-methylcytosine, where the cytosine base is modified with a methyl group at the 3rd position. This methylation at the 3rd position prevents the formation of standard base pairs, thus influencing RNA structure and function. As a unique modification, m3C plays a crucial role in regulating RNA processes, including the stability and translation of RNA molecules. Its presence in tRNA and rRNA has been linked to cellular stress responses and the fine-tuning of gene expression. Additionally, the disruption or aberrant expression of m3C has been associated with various diseases, including cancer, making it an important target for biomarker research.
