5-Hydroxy-Tryptamine (5-HT, commonly known as serotonin) is a critical neurotransmitter that plays a significant role in regulating mood, sleep, appetite, and pain perception. 5-HT is synthesized from tryptophan through the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH), which converts it to 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), and then aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AAAD) converts 5-HTP to 5-HT. Variations in 5-HT levels are associated with several disorders, including depression, anxiety, migraines, and irritable bowel syndrome. Accurate measurement of 5-HT concentrations provides insights into its role across different health conditions and offers a scientific foundation for diagnosing and treating related diseases.

MtoZ Biolabs utilizes liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to conduct detailed quantitative and qualitative analyses of 5-HT and its metabolites. This advanced method integrates LC's rapid separation capabilities with the high detection sensitivity of MS/MS, facilitating the precise measurement of 5-HT in complex biological matrices.
