6-hydroxy melatonin, with the chemical formula C13H16N2O3, has a structure similar to melatonin, differing only by the introduction of a hydroxyl (-OH) group at the 6th carbon position. While the primary functions of 6-hydroxy melatonin are not yet fully elucidated, research suggests that it may be involved in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory responses. Melatonin itself has strong antioxidant properties, and 6-hydroxy melatonin, with the additional hydroxyl group, may enhance these properties. It can scavenge free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative stress and cellular damage.
The levels of 6-hydroxy melatonin in biological samples can serve as an indicator of melatonin metabolism, helping researchers understand an individual's melatonin metabolic capacity as well as related physiological or pathological states. For example, levels of 6-hydroxy melatonin may change in conditions such as sleep disorders, liver dysfunction, or under the influence of certain medications. Therefore, measuring 6-hydroxy melatonin has potential applications in clinical and research contexts. MtoZ Biolabs employs an advanced liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) platform and a skilled metabolomics team to perform in-depth 6-hydroxy melatonin analysis service. We assure high sensitivity and precision in the analysis.
