    Ala-Phe Analysis Service

Ala-Phe is a dipeptide composed of the amino acids alanine (Ala) and phenylalanine (Phe). Alanine is a non-polar, aliphatic amino acid with a simple methyl side chain, while phenylalanine contains an aromatic side chain with a phenyl group. The unique molecular structure formed by the peptide bond between the carboxyl group of alanine and the amino group of phenylalanine retains the hydrophobic characteristics of alanine and the aromatic properties of phenylalanine. Due to its constituent components, Ala-Phe is involved in the regulation of amino acid metabolism and energy homeostasis. Alanine plays a critical role in the alanine cycle, which is essential for gluconeogenesis and maintaining blood glucose levels. Phenylalanine is a precursor of tyrosine, which is necessary for the synthesis of several neurotransmitters, including dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine.

Given its role in key metabolic pathways, Ala-Phe has the potential to serve as a biomarker for diagnosing metabolic disorders. Changes in Ala-Phe levels, whether elevated or reduced, may indicate abnormalities in amino acid metabolism, such as disorders of phenylalanine metabolism (e.g., phenylketonuria) or conditions associated with muscle wasting and malnutrition. Ala-Phe may also serve as an indicator of muscle protein degradation. During muscle breakdown, proteins are decomposed into their constituent amino acids and dipeptides, such as Ala-Phe. By analyzing Ala-Phe levels in biological fluids, such as blood or urine, it is possible to assess muscle protein breakdown and overall protein turnover in the body.
