Drug Target Discovery and Selection Services

Drug targets refer to the sites within the body where drugs bind, including genetic loci, receptors, enzymes, ion channels, nucleic acids, and other biomacromolecules. It enables a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of disease onset and progression, thereby leading to the development of new drugs that are more effective, have fewer side effects, and are more personalized. The key to modern drug research and development lies initially in identifying, validating, and preparing drug screening targets—molecular drug targets. To date, approximately 500 therapeutic drug targets have been identified, with receptors, particularly G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), constituting the majority, in addition to targets for enzymatic, antibacterial, antiviral, and antiparasitic actions. Rational drug design can be based on potential drug targets revealed in life sciences research, including enzymes, receptors, ion channels, and nucleic acids, or their endogenous ligands and natural substrate's chemical structural features, to design drug molecules aimed at discovering new drugs that selectively act on these targets.

      Services at MtoZ Biolabs

MtoZ Biolabs' "Drug Target Discovery and Selection Services" provides comprehensive solutions for pharmaceutical companies and research institutions worldwide. Our service uses mass spectrometry-based metabolomics technology. Through comprehensive, high-throughput, and quantitative analysis of metabolites in biological samples, we can discover disease-related metabolic biomarkers and further screen potential drug targets.

Untargeted metabolomics is an unbiased analytical method that comprehensively reveals the metabolic characteristics of biological samples with the convenience of sample processing. Although it provides extensive metabolomic data, it has limitations such as a restricted dynamic range, lower repeatability, and complex metabolite identification. In contrast, targeted metabolomics offers a broader linear dynamic range, excellent repeatability, high sensitivity, and simplified metabolite verification, but relies on prior knowledge of the analytes and is inherently biased.

MtoZ Biolabs integrates both targeted and untargeted metabolomics approaches to precisely identify key metabolic pathways and targets associated with diseases. This integration is crucial for the development of novel lead compounds and the screening of drug targets. The combined application not only reveals disease-specific metabolic alterations but also provides essential metabolic biomarkers and intervention strategies for drug development.
