    dTMP Analysis Service

Deoxythymidine monophosphate (dTMP) is a nucleotide that plays a critical role in DNA synthesis and repair. dTMP consists of a phosphate group, the pentose sugar deoxyribose, and the nucleobase thymine.  It is an intermediate in the thymidine salvage pathway, where it is synthesized from deoxyuridine monophosphate (dUMP) through the action of the enzyme thymidylate synthase. The importance of dTMP lies in its contribution to maintaining the balance of nucleotides necessary for proper DNA replication and repair, which are vital for cell survival and proliferation.

Research on dTMP has been extensive, particularly in the context of cancer biology and chemotherapy. Aberrations in dTMP biosynthesis are associated with cellular dysfunctions, including the development of certain cancers. Targeting the dTMP biosynthesis pathway has been a strategy in the design of chemotherapeutic agents such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which inhibits thymidylate synthase, leading to a reduction in dTMP levels and consequently impairing DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing tumor cells. The study of dTMP is also crucial in understanding metabolic disorders and the mechanisms of antiviral drugs that target DNA polymerases. Accurate and detailed analysis of dTMP levels and its metabolic pathways provides insights into the molecular underpinnings of these diseases and aids in the development of therapeutic interventions.
