    Febrifugine Analysis Service

Febrifugine, an alkaloid derived from Dichroa febrifuga, widely known as Changshan, has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to reduce fever. Its structure is characterized by a quinazolinocarboline backbone, which disrupts malaria parasite development by inhibiting their ability to utilize nucleic acids and heme.

In the liver, febrifugine undergoes metabolism predominantly through the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme system, notably CYP3A4. This process yields several metabolites, notably demethylated Febrifugine, which maintains partial antimalarial efficacy though with diminished potency. Hydroxylation and glucuronidation further facilitate the drug’s excretion, critical for its elimination from the body. Understanding these pathways is vital for enhancing febrifugine's clinical use, maximizing therapeutic effects, and reducing adverse outcomes.

MtoZ Biolabs utilizes liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for metabolomic analysis of febrifugine. This technique combines the high separation efficiency of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with the high sensitivity of mass spectrometry (MS), allowing for the precise detection and quantification of trace components in complex samples. Our services extend beyond identification and quantification to include in-depth studies on the structure-activity relationships, metabolic pathways, and biological activity of alkaloids, providing comprehensive data support.
