    Gossypol Analysis Service

      Gossypol is a natural polyphenolic compound primarily found in the seeds, roots, leaves, and stems of cotton plants (Gossypium spp.). It is a secondary metabolite of the plant and serves to protect the plant from insects and pathogens. Gossypol's chemical structure is characterized as a binaphthyl compound, featuring multiple hydroxyl and aldehyde groups. Its molecular formula is C₃₀H₃₀O₈. This structure gives gossypol its unique biological activity, but also contributes to its toxicity, particularly in non-ruminant animals. Gossypol has garnered attention due to its broad spectrum of biological activities, with studies showing that it exhibits anti-tumor, antiviral, antioxidant, antiparasitic, and antifertility effects. The quantitative analysis of gossypol is commonly performed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), and mass spectrometry techniques (LC-MS or GC-MS). These methods allow for the precise detection and quantification of gossypol in samples, as well as confirmation of its structure.
