    Label-Free Proteomics

The term "label-free proteome" generally refers to a group of proteins in proteomic research that do not rely on any form of chemical or isotopic labeling for protein quantitative analysis. Their analysis and quantitation depend on technical means that do not involve chemical labeling, such as mass spectrometry-based relative quantitative analysis.

      Significance of the Label-Free Proteome

      1. Technical Simplicity

Label-free proteomic methods, due to the omission of complex labeling steps, are more convenient to operate, reducing the complexity and cost of the experiment.

      2. Natural State of Data

Without the interference of chemical labeling, label-free proteome analysis can more naturally reflect the real state of proteins in biological samples.

      3. Wide Applicability

For samples that cannot be chemically labeled or situations where labeling methods may introduce bias, the label-free proteome provides an effective analysis option.

In proteomic research, the label-free method is particularly suitable for studies with limited sample quantities or a high diversity of sample types. For example, in the discovery of disease biomarkers, the study of cell response mechanisms, or the analysis of tissue-specific protein expression, label-free proteomic methods are often chosen.
