    Lactose and Neolactose Analysis Service

Glycosphingolipids are ubiquitous components of the cell membrane, characterized by at least one monosaccharide linked to ceramide or sphingosine via a glycosidic bond. They play crucial roles in essential cellular processes such as cell adhesion and signal transduction, mediated through protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions. Lactose-N-tetraose (LNT) and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT) serve as core structural elements of the lacto- and neolacto- glycosphingolipids, distinguished by a single galactose linkage. These structures resemble poly-N-acetyllactosamine chains, which are implicated in the regulation and modification of tumor-associated antigens, influencing cancer progression. Furthermore, glycosphingolipids are integral to the core structures of blood group antigens. In cancer cells, the composition and expression of glycosphingolipids differ from those in normal cells, playing a regulatory role in tumor development.
