Lithocholic acid-3-sulfate (LCA-3S) is a metabolite of the secondary bile acid lithocholic acid. LCA-3S is highly water-soluble and represents the primary form of lithocholic acid in the bile duct. In vitro studies have demonstrated that LCA-3S can form complexes with calcium ions. Additionally, in a rat model of diabetes induced by streptozotocin, biliary secretion of LCA-3S is significantly increased, suggesting its potential role in disease states.
