    Lithocholic Acid Analysis Service

Lithocholic acid (LCA), also known as 3α-hydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic acid, is a secondary bile acid produced from deoxycholic acid by gut microbiota. LCA is essential in the bile acid cycle, primarily acting as a detergent to solubilize fats for absorption. It also plays a role in lipid metabolism, cholesterol reabsorption, and maintaining bile acid homeostasis. However, the accumulation of LCA can be toxic, and it has been linked to carcinogenesis in both humans and experimental animals.

Preliminary in vitro studies have shown that LCA selectively kills neuroblastoma cells while sparing normal neuronal cells, and it is cytotoxic to several other malignant cell types at physiologically relevant concentrations. These findings suggest potential therapeutic applications for LCA, although its toxic risks warrant careful consideration. Therefore, accurate analysis of LCA and its metabolic pathways is crucial for understanding its biological functions and for its use in clinical and research applications.
