Recombinant Protein Drug Analysis Using Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS)

Recombinant protein drugs refer to protein products that originate from animals and plants and are developed through biotechnology research. These have certain biological activities that can prevent, treat, and diagnose diseases in humans and animals. Compared with small molecule drugs, recombinant protein drugs have advantages such as high activity, high specificity, and low toxicity, and are therefore favored by researchers. Currently, recombinant protein drugs are widely used in various fields such as tumors, autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases, aging diseases, and degenerative diseases. The measurement of protein particle size is of great importance for its stability evaluation, protein interaction research, drug delivery and nanomedicine, as well as protein aggregation research.

Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), also known as photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) or quasi-elastic light scattering (QELS), is one of the most commonly used analytical methods to determine the particle size and radius distribution in solution samples or polymers. In practical applications, DLS can be used to determine the size distribution of various particles, including proteins, polymers, etc. If the system is not size-dispersed, the average effective diameter of the particles can be determined, as the measurement depends not only on the core size of the particles but also on the size of the surface structure, particle concentration, and type of ions in the medium.

Advantages of DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) Analysis

      1. Accurate, Reliable, and Repeatable Particle Size Analysis

      2. Simple Sample Preparation, or Even Direct Analysis of Natural Samples Without Sample Preparation

      3. Simple Setup and Fully Automated Measurement

      4. Capability to Measure Sizes Less than 1nm

      5. Capability to Measure Molecules with a Molecular Weight <1000Da

      6. Low Volume Requirements

DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) analysis has been widely used in the measurement of antibody drug particle size. MtoZ Biolabs provides drug quality research services that comply with global regulatory laws, including DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) analysis of recombinant protein drugs, which can obtain important parameters such as molecular weight, gyro-radius, and translational diffusion constants.
