    Sucrose Metabolism Analysis

      Sucrose, a disaccharide comprising glucose and fructose, has the molecular formula C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁. Sucrose undergoes hydrolysis to release energy, supporting plant growth and development.

       

      Sucrose biosynthesis involves UDP-glucose and fructose-6-phosphate, catalyzed by sucrose-6-phosphate synthase. Sucrose breakdown primarily involves two enzymes: invertase, which hydrolyzes sucrose into glucose and fructose for use in metabolic processes, and sucrose synthase, which reversibly converts sucrose and UDP to UDP-glucose and fructose.
