Tauro-ω-muricholic acid (Tω-MCA) sodium salt is a taurine-conjugated form of ω-muricholic acid, a secondary bile acid primarily found in the bile of rodents such as mice. Hepatic levels of Tω-MCA decrease in mice following diets supplemented with cholic, deoxycholic, chenodeoxycholic, or ursodeoxycholic acid, as well as in a high-fat diet-induced mouse model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Additionally, Tω-MCA is the predominant rare bile acid found in the serum of infants with early-onset neonatal sepsis. This bile acid plays a significant role in bile acid metabolism, cholesterol metabolism, and liver health. Its unique structure gives it distinct biological functions under various physiological and pathological conditions. Research suggests that changes in Tω-MCA levels may be closely linked to metabolic disorders, liver diseases, and biliary conditions. Therefore, accurate measurement of Tω-MCA sodium salt and its metabolic dynamics is essential for understanding its role in health and disease.
