Taurohyocholic Acid Analysis Service
Taurohyocholic acid (THCA) is the taurine-conjugated form of the primary porcine bile acid, hyocholic acid. THCA plays a vital role in the emulsification and absorption of dietary fats. The conjugation of taurine to the bile acid enhances its solubility in the intestinal tract, thereby facilitating fat digestion and absorption, which is crucial for normal lipid metabolism.
Beyond its role in lipid metabolism, THCA also inhibits cholesterol crystal precipitation by stabilizing cholesterol in the liquid-crystalline phase. This stabilization effectively prevents cholesterol-induced cholestasis and cellular necrosis, which are essential for maintaining liver health. For instance, studies have demonstrated that THCA can prevent taurolithocholic acid-induced cholestasis and cellular necrosis in isolated rat livers. Additionally, elevated levels of THCA have been detected in the urine of patients with hepatitis B-induced cirrhosis, highlighting its potential as a biomarker for liver diseases.
Therefore, accurate detection and analysis of THCA are critical for understanding its role in lipid metabolism, liver diseases, and related pathological conditions.
