    Thiols

      Thiols, also known as mercaptans, are organic compounds that contain a sulfhydryl (-SH) group. These compounds play vital roles in biological processes, including enzymatic reactions, protein structure stabilization, and cellular signaling. However, the aberrant metabolism of thiols can lead to various pathological conditions such as oxidative stress, neurodegeneration, and cancer.

       

      Analysis Workflow

      Sample Preparation: Thiols are extracted from the sample using appropriate solvents and precipitating agents. The extract is then purified to remove interfering substances.

       

      Derivatization: To improve detection, thiols are derivatized to form more stable and volatile derivatives.

       

      LC-MS/MS analysis: Derivatized thiols are separated using liquid chromatography (LC) and quantified using tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS).

       

      Data Analysis: The raw data obtained from LC-MS/MS analysis is processed and analyzed to identify and quantify thiols.
