      What Do the Axes Represent?

      1. X-axis

GO (Gene Ontology) is a standardized classification system used to describe the functions of genes and proteins, encompassing three main aspects: Molecular Function, Cellular Component, and Biological Process. Each point on the X-axis corresponds to a specific GO term or category.

       

      2. Y-axis

      The Y-axis generally represents the number or proportion of genes or proteins. The values on the Y-axis indicate the number or proportion of genes or proteins in a given sample that have a particular GO term or category.

       

      What Do the Black Circles Represent?

      Black circles typically represent the number of genes or proteins in a given sample that possess a specific GO term or category. The size of the black circles can reflect the importance or significance of the functional term. Larger black circles indicate that the function is more prominent or significant in the sample.

       

      What Are the Red Bars?

      Red bars usually represent the enrichment level of a specific GO term or category in a given sample. The height of the bars reflects the extent of enrichment of that function in the sample, i.e., the significance of the function compared to the background gene or protein set. Taller red bars indicate greater enrichment of the function in the sample.
